Alice is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews who were precious to her, as well as her sister-in-law, Hilda (Van Meeteren) Manting.Ī memorial celebration will be held at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. of Ann Arbor and great-granddaughter, Avery Quinones. She found joy in spending time at her daughter’s cottage, drives to the beach, visits from family, weekly group outings, and playing cards and doing puzzles with friends.Īlice is survived by her daughter, Lynette (Gregory) Tarr of Romeo Grandchildren: Kristina (Marc) Quinones of Stafford, Virginia Gregory Tarr Jr. In recent years she treasured visits from her grandchildren, loved Facetime calls and receiving pictures of their adventures.Īlice lived at The Cottages of Maplewood for the past two years where she was loved by staff and residents alike.

In 2020, Alice had the joy of becoming a great grandma. She was a wonderful listener, a great source of unconditional love, and a strong prayer warrior for her family. She was fond of Gaither Homecoming music and also was an avid reader.Īlice was blessed with two grandchildren later in life, and she spent a great deal of time in Romeo, Michigan participating in their lives and enjoying their activities. She enjoyed Bible Study, the lakeshore, the sunshine, quiet drives, and annual trips to Florida with family. She was an exceptional caregiver, homemaker, and financial manager. Her joy was found in her faith, her family, and abiding friendships with neighbors. They welcomed their only child, a daughter, Lynette Alice, into their lives in 1966.Īlice spent 57 years as a resident of Holland and was a faithful member of Faith Christian Reformed Church. They were married in 1965 and established their home in Holland, Alvin’s hometown. She also enjoyed traveling with family and friends in her spare time.Īlice met Alvin Van Meeteren in 1964, when she was 40 years old. She worked for Michigan Bell in downtown Grand Rapids and adored spending time with family and close friends, especially her nieces and nephews. She graduated from Ottawa Hills High School and was an active long-time member of Oakdale Park Christian Reformed Church. Her quiet grace-filled life in the face of various strong and sometimes overwhelming adversities has been an amazing testimony to so many.Īlice (Schaaphok) was born on July 5,1924 in Grand Rapids.

She was a life-long helper to her family and friends, as well as to those she encountered along life’s path. Alice lived her life in sweet anticipation of this day, and we rejoice in her victorious home going!Īlice was a soft-spoken woman of faith who exemplified love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and self-control. Van Meeteren was called to Heaven by her Lord on the morning of August 31, 2022, at age 98.
